Is Michelle's fashion fraud continuing?

the fashionable first lady the world’s been waiting for…waiting for her to pay for her fashions
February 26, 2009 The media’s favorite punching bag, Sarah Palin, seems to be criticized for everything she does, short of breathing. No scratch that, people have criticized her for that, too. But, for some reason, Michelle Obama is *the First Lady we have been waiting for* and can do no wrong…even if she is wearing clothes she didn’t pay for. Instead of criticism for wearing clothes she didn’t pay for, she is deemed a fashion icon....Michelle Obama is not paying for her clothes. She is not reporting that she is taking these clothes for free. She is not being forced to pay for her clothes, or report them as income or gifts for tax purposes.

Are sunspots changing and will that take us to an Ice Age?

With 690 spotless days so far in this minimum as of June of this year, that is hardly outside of the range of previous minimums but it ain't over and there is no sign it will be anytime soon. The characteristics of the sunspots are unusual and don't look good to this interested lay person. Is this a lead in to a Maunder Minimum type Little Ice Age or is this the beginning of the big one? Time will tell.

The big story here is not the characteristics of sunspots changing but rather the changing tenor of the professional scientific community to stand up for true scientific debate that has been suppressed for so long. Far too long, in my opinion.

And Manitoba has also completed its third run of eight consecutive months with colder than average temperatures, says meteorologist Natalie Hasell.

U.S. Recession Worst Since Great Depression, Revised Data Show

The first 12 months of the U.S. recession saw the economy shrink more than twice as much as previously estimated, reflecting even bigger declines in consumer spending and housing, revised figures showed.

The world’s largest economy contracted 1.9 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 to the last three months of 2008, compared with the 0.8 percent drop previously on the books, the Commerce Department said yesterday in Washington. Gross domestic product has shrunk 3.9 percent in the past year, the report said, indicating the worst slump since the Great Depression.

Skype might have to shut down because of a dispute over the core technology used to make the internet telephone system work.

EBay admitted in a regulatory filing that it might have to close down the company. It said it was trying to develop alternative software but if that did not work, or if eBay lost the right to the original software: "Skype would be severely and adversely affected and the continued operation of Skype's business as currently conducted would likely not be possible."

US job cuts, foreclosures mount

This week brought new indications that any economic “recovery” in the US will not be shared by the working class. Telecommunications giant Verizon announced that it would eliminate 8,000 jobs by the end of the year, new data showed that the foreclosure crisis is continuing to mount, and weekly initial jobless benefit claims rose.

What is emerging is a protracted period of extremely high unemployment and growing social misery, which will be used to further slash wages, increase productivity and lower the standard of living and social position of the working class.

Webmaster's Commentary:

throughout history, opposition against governmental agendas has most frequently come from the middle class, not the working poor.

The current economic realities are about to shove more and more of us into the category of the working poor.

Study: Leftover bombs killed 10,500 in Vietnam

Bombs and land mines left over from the Vietnam War have so far killed more than 10,500 people in the south Asian country, a study has found.

The report, released on Friday by Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) and Vietnam's Ministry of Defense, said that 10,529 people have been killed and 12,231 others injured by leftover bombs, shells and mines since the war ended in 1975.

Most of the casualties were men collecting scrap metal, farming or herding, the report found, but many children were also killed or injured playing with unexploded ordnance.

The survey found 3,260 areas, covering 1.6 million hectares (4.0 million acres) in six central Vietnamese provinces, which are lethally contaminated with unexploded bombs and landmines.

July in Afghanistan: A Month of Worsts

As the US continues to commit more troops to the war, it takes more and more aggressive stances, like launching the Helmand River Valley offensive, the largest the nation has seen since the Soviet occupation. But it has little to show for its escalation, with attacks on the rise and deaths among both allies and bystanders reaching ever higher levels.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has conceded that the US most show some sign of improvement in the nation within a year, or it risks long international support. There is certainly no sign that is going to happen, but the bigger question is: how much worse is it going to get in the mean time?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Those who do not understand the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.

You cannot win a ground war from the air; there should have been a bitter but crucial lesson from the Viet Nam War for US civilian and military leadership on that, but it has, apparently gone unlearned.

In another article on Afghanistan from the GLOBE AND MAIL, it is reported that "Tens of thousands more U.S. soldiers may soon be needed in Afghanistan to quell the raging Taliban insurgency, top American generals are preparing to tell President Barack Obama."

However, just where these troops are supposed to come from appears to be a big unknown.

One has to wonder if a draft will be reinstituted in this country to even begin to come up with the numbers potentially necessary to do the job.

The old Soviet Union couldn't "pacify" this area with 500,000 pairs of boots on the ground.

And the reasons the old Soviet Union was in Afghanistan are, essentially, the same reasons the US and NATO are there right now: the installation of pipelines, to control Eurasia's oil, and protect the drug trade, from which so many profit so handsomely.

We are coming, at some point to a "Saigon moment" in Kabul; the only question is when, and how many more American, Afghan, and NATO lives will be lost to this military misadventure. And the most ghastly reality about this war was that the Bush/Cheney administration decided that this war would be "cheaper" than actually paying the Taliban the price they demanded for the pipelines in August of 2001.

I want Bush and Cheney to go on national television, and make that decision perfectly clear to the moms, dads, kids, relatives and friends of our Vets who have died, become permanently physically or psychologically maimed for life, committed horrendous acts of violence upon coming home, or committed suicide as a result of this war. For once in their wretched lives, they should tell the American people the truth.

And a small memo to SecDef Gates: I know of no thinking American who understands the geopolitical outcomes desired here, and supports the US presence in Afghanistan; not one, period, end of discussion.

U.S. generals to demand thousands of additional soldiers for Afghanistan

Tens of thousands more U.S. soldiers may soon be needed in Afghanistan to quell the raging Taliban insurgency, top American generals are preparing to tell President Barack Obama.

A spate of apparently deliberate leaks - seemingly aimed at preparing public opinion for a second "surge" involving as many as three or four more brigades or 20,000-plus soldiers and Marines - culminated yesterday with several reports saying General Stanley McChrystal, who took command of U.S. and NATO forces in June, wants lots more troops.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With the US military stressed almost to the breaking point with current commitments around the globe, one has to wonder where these additional troops will come from.

And if you think that the reinstitution of the draft would never happen under this President's watch, think again.

The sheer muscularity of Obama's foreign policy objectives may well make it impossible for him to achieve them without this happening.

North Jersey: epicenter of 'Kosher Nostra' and Mossad activity

It appears that the FBI was being careful about naming “I.M.” due to his extensive contacts from Israel to countries around the world, an indication that “I.M.,” unlike the rabbis and the New Jersey politicos, is a big fry who is laundering large sums of money, possibly from gambling operations, through synagogues and Jewish charities. It is known that Solomon Dwek was involved in a casino boat business and that jailed GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff was similarly involved in taking control of Sun Cruz Casino boats in Florida. Abramoff also funded radical Israeli settler movements on the West Bank.

WMR has learned from a reliable source that the identity of “I.M,,” if revealed, would serve as a body blow to the Likud government of Netanyahu and his major coalition partners, Yisrael Beiteinu of extreme right-wing Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and the ultra-orthodox Shas Party. The revelation of “I.M.’s” identity, we are told, will also provide encouragement to the Palestinians to stand their ground against Israeli encroachment in east Jerusalem and the West Bank. In fact, the timing of the recent arrests in New Jersey and New York may be directly tied to Israel’s move to build a residential complex in east Jerusalem over the objections of President Barack Obama.

Israel Prepares for War Over WHO Gaza Reports

Six months after Israel’s devastating assault on Hamas, its south-western border with Gaza has not been as quiet in a decade — only two rockets in the past six weeks on Israeli towns. Yet, the plight of Palestinian civilians in Gaza continues to haunt Israel.

The World Health Organization is charging that Gazans have limited access to proper medical supplies because of the continuing Israeli blockade. In a detailed report Thursday on the dire medical situation in the Hamas controlled area, the WHO report notes that equipment now in use is often broken or outdated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Defending the indefensible is going to get harder and harder for the Israeli government,as more light - and more humanitarian aid - begins to get into Gaza, thanks to the work of some very brave humanitarian organizations, like Viva Palestina.

MIT's 'bokode' chip said to outperform bar codes

The new tag, which can be read by consumers with a cellphone camera, looks like a 1-mm-high raised bump. Called a "bokode," the Massachusetts Institute of Technology invention consists of an illuminated microdot behind a plastic lens. It will use flat, reflective holograms in future versions.

MIT's bokode is named after the Japanese term "bokeh," which refers to the image of a round blob that results when a camera is out of focus. MIT researchers reversed that process by encoding the microdot's blob-like image based on the angles at which rays emerge from the lens--an encoding that allows the out-of-focus camera to recombine the rays into the original.

Elite Power is a Source of Destruction

The use or abuse of power over people, is less dependent on who legally owns the “means of production” or the resources, it rather depends on who and how many control those means and resources. From here, a rogue IT engineer can sell access to the tills of 50 high street stores or a Taiwanese factory worker can be bribed to install spy software in a dozen credit card readers. Botnets, trojans, worms — and worse — are fomented here.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These hackers cause far more damage than terrorists, yet the US Government seems to remain totally unconcerned, probably because security software is now a huge business that tithes the appropriate congressional campaigns

D.C. Power Players Get Sweetheart Loans

At the height of the subprime boom, perhaps nobody gave out more risky loans than Countrywide Financial.

But while the government debated how to regulate the mortgage industry, Countrywide pursued a shrewd strategy: attempt to curry favor among influential people by offering them sweetheart loans.

Urgent appeal on the pending execution of nine Iraqi women

International human right and civil society organisations do not accept that Iraqi courts can, in the current conditions, guarantee justice and fairness.

This is especially the case following widespread evidence that some of the prisoners, including these women, have been tortured.

Webmaster's Commentary:

By golly, we HAVE brought the American way of life to those Iraqis!

Hold your fire

Walking back the cat: Looks like Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis was forced to backtrack on his deadly force policy amendment -- tipped in Sneed's column Wednesday -- allowing cops to shoot at suspected felons fleeing in motor vehicles.

• • To wit: Sneed hears City Corporation Counsel Mara Georges and Mayor Daley were flummoxed by the order, which they felt could have been a huge liability problem for a city already reeling in debt.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No kidding.

Breaking Israel's spell

Yet the blind spot that persistently handicaps those from the upper echelons of power down to street level is British Jewry's relationship with Israel. The community is bewitched by a 60-year old spell which dictates that to be a "loyal" Jew, one must profess unconditional love for Israel, regardless of the many faults and failings of the Jewish state.

Right-Wing Harassment Strategy Against Dems Detailed In Memo: ‘Yell,’ ‘Stand Up And Shout Out,’ ‘Rattle Him’

This morning, Politico reported that Democratic members of Congress are increasingly being harassed by “angry, sign-carrying mobs and disruptive behavior” at local town halls. For example, in one incident, right-wing protesters surrounded Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) and forced police officers to have to escort him to his car for safety.

This growing phenomenon is often marked by violence and absurdity. Recently, right-wing demonstrators hung Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD) in effigy outside of his office. Missing from the reporting of these stories is the fact that much of these protests are coordinated by public relations firms and lobbyists who have a stake in opposing President Obama’s reforms.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This article is trying to use "Right Wing" to portray the protests as the work of the opposition party when the truth is that the Democrats have complete control of the Federal Government and are seen to simply not be keeping any of the promises made during last year's campaign season.

These protests at the Town Hall meetings are just ordinary citizens who have reached the breaking point.

Why We Need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission

What if the perpetrators of the financial, military, torture, and other crimes and their assistants were granted amnesty from prosecution on the condition that they fully explain how and why the crimes happened? And anyone caught consciously lying would automatically go to jail? The following might occur:

• Lower-level conspirators would probably be more likely to come forward and tell what they know

• When they come forward, they are more likely to point their finger at the real masterminds

• Seeing a way to support the truth without destroying the country, others who have knowledge of the true facts -- even if they were not direct participants -- would be more likely to work publicly for truth and justice, instead of hindering us

BIS Slammed Federal Reserve and Other Central Banks for Blowing Bubbles and then "Using Gimmicks and Palliatives" which "Will Only Make Things Worse"

If you have any doubt that the Fed and other central banks should have known that a crash was coming, all you have to do is look at this June 2007 article from the Telegraph:

The Bank for International Settlements, the world's most prestigious financial body, has warned that years of loose monetary policy has fuelled a dangerous credit bubble, leaving the global economy more vulnerable to another 1930s-style slump than generally understood...

The BIS, the ultimate bank of central bankers, pointed to a confluence a worrying signs, citing mass issuance of new-fangled credit instruments, soaring levels of household debt, extreme appetite for risk shown by investors, and entrenched imbalances in the world currency system...

From banking scams, to body parts, to politicians, to censorship of the media and online, to sucking the world into wars, to the Annual billions of taxpayer money, to the thousands of groups worldwide in every single country whose sole purpose is to advance the cause of a foreign country, it is not Anti-Semitism, we have had enough and want to be free from your world agenda. That is our right.

Hate Crimes Bill - who benefits?

The United States Senate recently passed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act (HCPA/S.909), a "Hate Crimes Bill" that provides authorities with the power to increase prosecution and punishment for crimes which were already covered under current laws but which will now receive special attention. The new American law ostensibly only covers "hate violence," but, if we look to Europe and Canada as examples of how it will truly be used, we can see that a seriously threatening can of worms has been opened. Although it sounds at first to many to be a good thing, this legislation in fact represents a slippery slope, the thin edge of the wedge, for tremendous oppression, including increased censorship based on perceived "hate speech."

Emails Show Rove's Role In U.S. Attorney Firings

The Washington Post and New York Times have obtained emails that offer glimpses into Rove's role in the firing of certain of the U.S. attorneys. They jibe closely with many similar emails that were released last year as part of a Justice Department inspector general report which essentially found that the firings were engineered by Rove and other White House officials.

The National ID Bracelet

This is a struggle to the death between permanent Escape or permanent Bondage: This is what is on the table right now. Efforts by the Bush-Dictatorship to implement the National ID Card program FAILED because they tried to pass the costs of that program on to the States, and the "States" are broke. (1)

The states are still broke, but now this new mythology of the national ID Bracelet is beginning to make its way into the national terror-network, in the public's paranoid mind, where it is intended to scare the public into compliance.

let's go to Gaza

Let's get Mike to Gaza for x-mas, with his wife and some friends, if he feels like joining !

The event will aim to bring thousands of demonstrators from around the world to march alongside Gazans as they breach the blockade imposed upon the population since the election of Hamas in 2006

We will march the Long Mile across Erez checkpoint alongside the people of Gaza in a nonviolent demonstration that breaches the illegal blockade,’ it said, adding that ‘We conceive this march as the first step in a protracted nonviolent campaign … If we bring thousands to Gaza and millions more around the world watch the march on the internet, we can end the siege without a drop of blood being shed.’

Anti-Defamation League Has Lost It's Way

In my opinion, shame accrues to the corrupt behavior of Professors Sharlemann and Ettenberg; to the Anti-Defamation League, once devoted to vigorous defense of persecuted persons, now devoted to scurrilous smear-mongering and attempts to silence those (especially elected officials and teachers) who oppose the despotic policies of the state of Israel; and to University of California Chancellor Henry Yang, whose failure immediately to provide Professor Robinson with an apology reeks of cowardice.
