US occupation helicopter falls down in Al-Yarubiya town in eastern countryside of Hasaka

A US occupation helicopter fell down in Al-Yarubiya town in the eastern countryside of Hasaka, local sources told SANA reporter in Hasaka on Tuesday.

The reporter quoted the sources as saying that “a helicopter belonging to the US occupation fell in Tal Hadad village in Al-Yarubiya town in the far eastern countryside of Hasaka”, pointing out that 10 US armored vehicles cordoned the village, and the wrecked helicopter was transported by another helicopter using iron chains.

In addition, sources at the illegal US-led coalition admitted that the incident has taken place, but underestimated it and considered that the crash of the helicopter was an emergency landing and did not result in casualties.

Trump says he wanted to ASSASSINATE Assad, blames ex-defense chief Mattis for staying his hand

US President Donald Trump has claimed he wanted to “take out” Syrian President Bashar Assad in 2017 but was deterred by then-Defense Secretary James Mattis – after previously denying an assassination was even discussed.
“I would have rather taken [Assad] out,” Trump told Fox & Friends on Tuesday, insisting “I had him all set,” but “Mattis didn’t want to do it.”

SYRIAN ARMY ARTILLERY DEVASTATES MILITANTS’ POSITIONS IN IDLIB AS TURKS SUFFER FRESH CASUALTIES IN AFRIN

Turkish forces have been passing through hard times in northwestern Syria.

First a mysterious ‘heart attack’ that killed a Turkish general in Idlib. Then, Turkish military positions in the province of Aleppo were devastated by a series of rocket strikes. Rockets pounded the so-called ‘observation post’ of the Turkish military near the town of Xezwe on September 12. Later on the same day, when Turkish reinforcements deployed in the area, the Xezwe post was once again shelled by unguided rockets. Photos and videos from the ground showed that the strike caused notable damage, while pro-militant sources also claimed that several Turkish troops were injured.

The Turkish Armed Forces responded to the attack by striking positions of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Aqiybah, Sughanka and Burj al-Qas.

Large Number Of Russian Warships Seen Deployed Between Syria & Cyprus

A large number of Russian warships were recently tracked off the coasts of Syria and Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean region, the Russian publication Avia.Pro reported Thursday.

According to the online publication, “experts are seriously concerned about the presence of at least 15 Russian warships and submarines off the coast of Syria. This is the first time such a large military formation has been seen here, which raises suspicions about whether Russia plans to engage in a military special operation against jihadists using the navy.

Senator John McCain: The ‘Charlie Wilson’ of Syria War

In an editorial [1] last week, Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, lambasted Donald Trump for canceling a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018 due to rain, and accused him of disparagingly mentioning military veterans as “losers” and “suckers.”

But in order to substantiate his allegations, Goldberg came up with a rather bizarre example. While noting Donald Trump wasn’t invited to the funeral of Republican Senator John McCain, who died battling cancer in 2018, Goldberg observed:

“Trump’s understanding of concepts such as patriotism, service, and sacrifice has interested me since he expressed contempt for the war record of the late Senator John McCain, who spent more than five years as a prisoner of the North Vietnamese. ‘He’s not a war hero,’ Trump said in 2015 while running for the Republican nomination for president. ‘I like people who weren’t captured.’”

Video: Syrian Air Defenses Engage Hostile Targets Near Aleppo - State TV

Syrian state media reported early Friday morning that air defense systems near Aleppo had engaged hostile targets.

The Syrian state TV channel al-Ikhbariya reported early Friday morning that anti-air systems had engaged hostile targets over al-Safirah, near the northern city of Aleppo. According to al-Ikhbariya, the attack was launched by Israeli aircraft and several missiles were shot down before they reached their targets.

79 Israeli strikes target Syria in 32 months: report

A total of 79 Israeli strikes have targeted Syria over the past 32 months, destroying 250 targets, a war monitor reported on Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that it had documented the strikes from the beginning of 2018 until the beginning of September 2020.

The Britain-based watchdog group said that the Israeli strikes had killed 509 people and destroyed 250 targets, including weapon depots, buildings, and military headquarters.

TURKISH MILITARY STRIKES SYRIAN ARMY, SUFFERS FIRST CASUALTIES SINCE MARCH

Syrian-Turkish tensions have ramped up in the region of Greater Idlib over the past few days.

On September 5, heavy clashes between Syrian troops and Turkish-backed militants broke out near the town of Fleifel and Saraqib in southeastern Idlib, near the town of al-Enkawi in northwestern Hama and Kafr Taal in western Aleppo. According to pro-militant sources, at least 5 Syrian Army troops were killed in injured in the confrontation. They claim that it is the Damascus government that violated the ceasefire triggering the confrontation. At the same time, Syrian sources say that the clashes started after the Turkish Armed Forces conducted several artillery strikes on Syrian Army positions near the town of Saraqib.

U.S. Says Iran Must Leave Syria, Russia Can Stay, But Allies Keep the Oil

The United States is defending its policy in Syria amid heated criticisms, with the State Department calling for the removal of Iranian and Iran-backed forces, but not a Russian withdrawal, as the Pentagon continues to back a mostly Kurdish partnered militia that battles ISIS and secures the oil and gas reserves.

With President Donald Trump most recently describing the U.S. mission in Syria as being purely about oil, detractors in the Middle Eastern country and abroad have accused the White House of yet another mission creep in a nearly decade-long conflict with no clear end in sight.

US Defends its Illegal Presence in Syria: US troops in Syria clashed with both Russian and Syrian government forces in August

In comments to Newsweek, the US State Department defended the US occupation of eastern Syria. Washington’s policy in Syria has come under fire in recent weeks after US troops clashed with both Syrian government forces and Russian soldiers.

“We have been very clear regarding our overall policy goals in Syria,” the State Department told Newsweek. “The United States’ policy objectives for Syria have been consistent and remain the same: the enduring defeat of ISIS and Al-Qaeda, an irreversible political solution to the Syrian conflict in line with UNSCR 2254, and the removal of all Iranian-supported forces.”

The State Department spokesperson also addressed a recent oil deal inked between a US company and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who the US backs. “We are continuing the vital mission of assisting our SDF partners in securing oil fields in northeast Syria once occupied and used by ISIS to generate revenue,” the spokesperson said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is zero justification for the US's continued illegal occupation of Syria; and you can bet, if the Russian military, who were invited by the Syrian government to get rid of the US funded/trained jihadists, find themselves in a situation where they feel they have to defend themselves, they will.

Is this what President Trump is hoping to provoke here?!? Starting World War III over Syria with Russia as a distraction from his failed international and domestic policies before an election cycle?!?

Somebody, please tell me that the Trump administration is not this ham-fistedly, pig- headedly stupid!!!

Israel Hit T-4 Airbase in Homs, Syria Says, in Second Strike in Two Days

Syria's air defense on Wednesday shot down most of a series of Israeli rockets launched in the direction of T-4 airbase in the central province of Homs, the state news agency reported, citing a military source.

Syrian state news agency SANA said the Israeli warplanes fired the missiles from southern Syria soon after 10 p.m.

Israel Attacks Airport in Syria’s Central City of Homs

Continuing Israel’s trend of growing attacks on Syria, the airport in Homs was struck Wednesday. The Syrian state media confirmed the incident, saying they’d intercepted most of the rockets, and limited the attack to material damage without casualties.

The Israeli military declined to comment, saying it was in accordance with policy not to comment on reported Israeli attacks. This has been particularly true in Syria, where almost none of their strikes are officially commented upon.

There is little question that these are Israeli attacks, however. Most such Israeli strikes target Shi’ites, which Israeli media will portray as Iranian whether or not any Iranians are actually involved.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My big question here, is why Russia is apparently doing nothing to prevent these attacks, when it was invited by the Syrian government to get rid of US funded/trained jihadists (and their allies)?!?

Buchanan: Where Will All These War Games Lead?

Authored by Patrick Buchanan via Buchanan.org,

In northeast Syria last week, a U.S. military vehicle collided with a Russian armored vehicle, injuring four American soldiers.

Both the Americans and Russians blame each other for failing to follow established rules of the road. Had an American been killed, we could have had a crisis on our hands.

Query: With the ISIS caliphate dead and buried, why are 500 U.S. troops still in Syria a year after Donald Trump said we would be pulling them out? What are they doing there to justify risking a clash with Russian troops who are in Syria as the invited allies of the Damascus regime of Bashar Assad, whether we approve of his regime or not?

Nor was this the only U.S.-Russian faceoff last week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just because an action is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could do is, unfortunately, no guarantee that it will not do it.

All it takes is one mis-read, one misunderstanding, one not following the rules, and suddenly, we are looking at the US government having gotten this country into a shooting war with..... fill in the blank.

Current hot spots, and situations, include the South China Sea; the border between India and Pakistan; the border between India and China; Belarus; Armenia and Azerbaijan's border; Iran and Israel; Lebanon and Israel; Greece and Turkey squaring off over the Mediterranean oil fields; the Bering sea; and Syria.

There are many in the Bowels of Power in DC who hope for such a war, because it was war that got the US out of the terrible depressions which proceeded both World War I and World War II.

But the situation, with the US and the world, is an entirely different kind of beast in this part of the 21st century.

Many countries now are nuclear-armed and capable; this includes Pakistan; India; China; and Russia. The US weapons systems don't work as advertised; rarely get actually delivered on time, and by the time they are delivered, have been rendered obsolete by other countries' push in weapons technology, and are delivered at cost over-runs large enough to drive a truck through.

The US is dealing with an economic depression of cosmic proportions, exacerbated by Covid-19, and massive riots and unrest in many urban areas; on top of this, it is an election year in this country.

I frankly think, that wise leadership would work as hard as they could to get the domestic issues sorted first, before they would even contemplate a war against a country like Lichtenstein; but then again, that... would be wise leadership.

Syria's Assad names new government headed by PM Arnous

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued a decree Sunday appointing a new cabinet without changing the heads of so-called "sovereign" portfolios, days after confirming Hussein Arnous as the country's premier.
The decree, published on the presidency's social media channels, keeps the heads of the foreign affairs, defence, interior, economy and information ministries in their posts but changes those in charge of 12 other cabinet portfolios, including the ministries of finance, energy and public health.

The 29-minister government, which includes three female ministers, is the fifth to be formed since the outbreak of Syria's civil war in 2011.

It came as Syria grapples with a grinding economic crisis, a spiraling coronavirus outbreak and continued violence in the country's north.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As long as Russia supports the current Syrian government, any and all "regime change" efforts, including sanctions against this country, coupled with the deployment of US trained and funded jihadists in the North, will continue to fail.

NATO behind the Turkish attack in Syria

Several members of NATO are currently weeping crocodile tears about the terrible luck of the Kurds, thus masking the fact that they had in fact green-lit « Operation Peace Spring » in advance. Nearly two dozen Saudi troops enter US base in northeastern Syria: Report

Saudi Arabia has reportedly deployed nearly two dozen combat troops to a US-run military base in Syria’s oil-rich northeastern province of Hasakah as the Riyadh regime and some of its regional allies are vying with the United States to loot the natural resources of the war-ravaged country.

Lebanon’s Arabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network, citing an informed source, reported that 20 Saudi soldiers, led by an officer called Saud al-Joghaifi, arrived at the US base in the city of Shaddadi on Wednesday.

The source added that the Saudi troops were accompanied by a convoy of US-led forces from the coalition purportedly formed to fight the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, which withdrew from Camp Taji, situated 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, earlier this week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So it's not JUST the US stealing Syrian oil; it's the Saudis as well!!

Is Syrian Oil Now A ‘U.S. National Interest’? We want to hear how keeping our troops there in harm's way is 'America First.'

Sure, officially, the military says we are there for stability operations, keeping the peace between the competing factions in the contested areas of Northeastern Syria near the Turkish border. They will say we are still patrolling with Kurdish fighters against the remnants of ISIS. More importantly, however, is Trump’s reason for leaving some 500 troops there—for protecting the oil fields from the Syria government on behalf of the Kurds. More on that in a minute.

While RNC surrogates were congratulating Trump for “rebuilding the military” and his America First virtues in countering China and Iran last night, four American soldiers were recuperating from injuries sustained when a Russian armored vehicle sideswiped their own Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) as they were both racing down a highway in Dayrick near the Turkish border on Aug. 24.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was an absolutely detestably bad call on the part of President Trump, and needs to be reversed ASAP.

US, Russia Trade Blame Over Syria Road Incident

Wednesday’s incident on the roads on northeast Syria, in which Russian and US MRAPs reportedly collided, injuring four US troops, continues to be a major issue. The US and Russia are both trading blame for the incident, and for the generally tense situation in Syria.

The White House presented the incident as an escalation of tensions, and presented it as a “clash” with Russia. Their version involved Russia “boxing in” the US vehicles, and that Russian helicopters were flying dangerously low above the US MRAPs.

Video of the incident didn’t tell anything nearly so clear-cut, with it not at all obvious what the vehicles were trying to do, and showing only a very minor collision, which the US says led to four soldiers having concussion-like symptoms.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US military was not invited at the behest of the Syrian government; Russia's was.

And Russia has equipment in the field which will do what its government says it does.

The US military presence in Syria is a very bad call on the part of President Trump, and should be reversed ASAP.

WESTERN WAR PROPAGANDA STILL AIMS AT SYRIA

SOURCE: TONY CARTALUCCI

While US regime change in Syria appears to be a terminal failure, various propaganda ploys used to sell the war continue in the hopes that - at the very least - such ploys can be polished and improved upon when and where the US turns its attention next.

The accused - Anwar Raslan, a former colonel in the Syrian military, and co-defendant Eyad al-Gharib, who allegedly worked under Raslan, had been living in Germany as refugees and were arrested in February last year.

The article also notes that:

Germany is using a legal principle called universal jurisdiction to trial Raslan and al-Gharib.

This allows German prosecutors to work on war crimes cases, whether they have a close connection to Germany or not.

Universal jurisdiction could result in an alternative means for the international community to bring war criminals to account.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hey, I have some places where universal jurisdiction should be used; how about at US/run "black sites" and Gitmo, where people were tortured?!?

That has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?!?

US Troops Injured After Russian Chopper & Vehicles Gave Chase To American Convoy In Syria

Dramatic video which emerged Tuesday shows the latest "close call" between US, Russia, and Syrian national forces who are jostling for control of northeast Syria, after a prior incident resulted in a rare exchange of fire at a Syrian Army checkpoint, killing two Syrian soldiers.

The Pentagon is reporting multiple US troops injured with what are being described as "concussion-like injuries" as a result of collisions with Russian armored vehicles.

The footage is being widely reported as showing Russian Army vehicles and even a chopper giving chase to an American armored convoy in northeastern Syria.

And here's the account of Beirut-based al-Masdar News, which is known for having reporters on the ground and sources within the Syrian Army:

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am deeply concerned about a major escalation here before November's election, and hope and pray that President Trump and the Joint Chiefs collectively have the horse-sense to not let this happen.

RUSSIAN, SYRIAN FORCES ELIMINATED OVER 300 ISIS MILITANTS IN DESERT

Russian and Syrian forces eliminated 327 ISIS militants during a joint security operation that took place in the desert areas of Homs and Deir Ezzor from August 18 to August 24.

According to the Russian side, strikes of the Syrian Air Force, the Russian Aerospace Forces, field artillery and actions of special forces units in the desert also allowed to eliminate 134 shelters, 17 observation posts, 7 warehouses and 5 underground storage areas belonging to ISIS terrorists.

The operation came in response to a series of successful ISIS attacks on pro-government forces in the Homs-Deir Ezzor desert. One of these attacks, near Deir Ezzor city on August 18, led to the killing of Russian Major-General Vyacheslav Gladkih. Taking into account the numbers provided by the Russian side, the August 18-24 operation likely delivered a powerful blow to ISIS cells hiding in the desert. Nonetheless, it is unlikely that the ISIS threat was fully removed.

Clashes between US, regime forces present new challenges for Russia in Syria

A US military facility in northeastern Syria, in the eastern part of the Deir ez-Zor region, came under rocket fire Aug. 19, with several shells falling in the vicinity of a US base near the Conoco oil field. On Aug. 17, an armed incident occurred between an American patrol and Syrian military personnel near the city of Qamishli in adjoining Hasakah province. After the sides exchanged fire at a checkpoint, a Syrian solider was killed; while the Syrian state news agency SANA said the soldier was killed by fire from US helicopter gunships, the US command said there was only an exchange of ground fire.

Gas pipeline explosion causes ‘cascading blackout’ across Syria in suspected ‘terrorist attack’

A suspected terrorist attack against a major gas pipeline in Damascus countryside has led to widespread power outages all across Syria, according to the country’s electricity and energy ministries.

The blast “may have been caused by a terrorist act” and “led to power cuts in all of Syria,” SANA reported, citing the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, who later doubled down on the initial assertion:

After assessing the situation, it became clear that the explosion that occurred on the Arab gas pipeline… was caused by a terrorist attack.

Syrian Troops Capture Major Aleppo Neighborhood

Syrian troops have overtaken a major neighborhood in Aleppo, state media reports. The development means that a large northern section of the city—including 10 neighborhoods and more than 3,000 buildings—is back under government control. Rami Abdurrahman, of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said nearly 30 percent of Aleppo’s previously rebel-held areas are now back in state control. Russia’s defense ministry said at least 100 rebels relinquished their weapons and left the city. President Bashar al-Assad’s government has been fighting to recapture Aleppo from rebels since 2012, with estimates of more than 30,000 people killed in that time.

SYRIAN FORCES ARE HUNTING DOWN ISIS TERRORISTS IN DESERT

The military situation in Syria continued deteriorating in the recent days.

On August 21, the Syrian Army and its allies increased their anti-ISIS raids in the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor-Al-Mayadin triangle. According to pro-government sources, these efforts are being actively supported by recently deployed reinforcements from the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun armed group.

On August 20, ISIS claimed responsibility for the recent attack on Russian troops in the province of Deir Ezzor. The attack, which took place on August 18, killed Maj. Gen. Vyacheslav Gladkih and injured two other Russian service members. In a statement released by its news agency, Amaq, ISIS claimed that a number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which had been planted by its terrorists east of the town of al-Sukhnah in eastern Homs, struck a Russian patrol that was combing the region.

Syria Envoy: US Stealing Syrian Oil and Gas

Syrian representative Bashar al-Jaafari has delivered remarks to the UN Security Council this week, complaining that the US occupation forces are advancing effort to steal Syrian oil and gas through a business deal reached with Crescent Delta Energy.

That the US is planning to steal Syrian oil is non-controversial, as President Trump has made that position public for months. Crescent Delta Energy is contracted to take the oil, after Trump failed efforts to court larger companies. The deal is that any revenue going to Syria would be given to the Kurdish SDF.

Jaafari noted to the UN that the resources in question after needed for reconstruction after the war. Again this is not in serious dispute, and many see taking the oil as in part meant to assure that Syria can’t reconstruct if the war ends in a way the US does not approve of.

Russian warplanes targeted Islamic State (IS) positions in the desert region in central and southern Syria on Friday, a war monitor reported.

A total of seven Russian warplanes struck IS positions in the desert region of the central province of Homs and the southern province of Sweida, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, without details on casualties.

The Britain-based watchdog group said IS members have "a thick presence" in the desert region.

Meanwhile, three Syrian soldiers were killed and three others wounded when an explosive device went off in the desert of Sweida.

How Local Arab Uprising in Northeast Syria May Wipe US Forces & Their SDF Proxies Out of the Region

US bases and personnel have been increasingly attacked by unidentified actors in Syria over the past several months. Political analyst Christopher Assad and US military veteran Mark Sleboda have shed light on the trouble brewing for US occupation forces in the northeastern Syrian provinces of Al-Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor.

In early August, the US base in the town of Ash Shaddadi, in Al-Hasakah province, was shelled by unknown militants, according to Al-Watan newspaper. At the end of May, a military convoy of US troops and the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were reportedly attacked by unidentified fighters in Deir ez-Zor province. A month earlier, on 20 April, a US military vehicle was destroyed in Al-Hasakah governorate.

Major Exchange Of Fire Between US & Syrian Armies Results In Casualties

Trump's "secure the oil" policy in Syria is set to get increasingly costly as tensions rise and more such confrontations inevitably occur: on Monday US occupying forces and the Syrian Army exchanged fire in a rare direct clash, reportedly ending in casualties on the Syrian government side.

It happened in northeast Hasakah province just southeast of Qamishili, in an area where for the past couple years American special forces have bolstered Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Associated Press writes of the rare but not without precedent deadly encounter:

U.S. forces clashed with Syrian troops in the northeast on Monday, killing at least one soldier and wounding two others, state media said, while the U.S. military said it responded to small arms fire near a Syrian checkpoint.

Israel has been carrying out its war-between-war campaign against Iran since 2013, striking thousands of targets in Syria, and according to foreign reports in neighboring Iraq, in order to prevent the smuggling of advanced weaponry to Hezbollah in Lebanon and the entrenchment of its forces in Syria where they could easily act against Israel.

ASSAD: US Needs Terrorists, Uses Sanctions To Support Them

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stated the US needs terrorists on the ground in the region and slammed its recent draconian sanctions against Syria as a means of throwing support behind them.

The Takfiri terrorist group, the most violent of the type ever known to the world, invaded the country and neighboring Iraq in 2014. The group that was defeated by Damascus and its allies three years later, has been found in receipt of US support across many reports and by many regional officials.

US Plans To Build Up Syrian Proxy Forces to Guard Oilfield

US plans for the ongoing war in Syria are, as they so often have been throughout, built around the idea that they can win by arming and propping up the right proxy forces. This is built around the other major US plan, to take Syria’s oil.

Indeed, an agreement on Delta Crescent Energy LLC making a contract on Syrian oil with the Syrian Kurds detailed further plans to bolster the Kurdish SDF and create a force affiliated with them that will guard the US-occupied oilfield.

Official reports played up the US coordination with the SDF, and suggests that there is substantially more SDF capability that they intend to create going forward. That isn’t to say it doesn’t leave open some questions, however.

Israel bombs Arab Syrian Army

During the night of 23-24 June, Israel carried out air strikes against the Syrian Arab Army.

The Israeli bombers approached the occupied Syrian Golan Heights to hit Soueida and flew over Jordan to reach Deir Ez-zor, the largest city in eastern Syria.

For the past three years, Israel has only bombed Iranian-related targets inside Syrian territory, but never the Syrian Arab Army itself.

Little-known U.S. firm secures deal for Syrian oil

An American company has inked a contract with Kurdish authorities in northeastern Syria to develop and export the region’s crude oil under a secretive deal approved by the U.S. government months after President Donald Trump announced he was leaving U.S. troops to “secure the oil,” multiple people familiar with the project told POLITICO.

The agreement reached by a little-known firm helmed by politically connected former military and diplomatic officials has already angered the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad, which does not recognize the Kurdish authorities as autonomous. The Syrian Foreign Minister called the deal illegal and said it is aimed at “stealing” Syria’s crude.

Syrian Air Force jets destroy major militant weapons cache in northern Idlib

Syrian Air Force fighter jets have reportedly targeted and completely destroyed a major cache containing various types of munitions belonging to foreign-sponsored Takfiri terrorists during an operation in the country's northwestern province of Idlib.

The Arabic service of Russia’s Sputnik news agency, citing local sources, reported that the military aircraft struck the arms depot of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist group on the outskirts of Binnish city, located just north of Idlib city, on Monday.

The report added that the airstrikes resulted in successive explosions, and totally ruined the weapons warehouse.

Israel strikes Syrian military targets near Damascus, IDF calls it ‘response’ to failed border attack

Israeli jets bombed several Syrian military sites south of Damascus late on Monday, the IDF has confirmed, saying that the attack had been launched in response to the attempted planting of a bomb in the Golan Heights.
The airstrike took place in the countryside southwest of Damascus, SANA news agency reported, describing explosions being heard in the city.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) then said in a statement the attack was a response to an attempted provocation on the Syrian-Israeli border, targeting a fence in the occupied Golan Heights.

The IDF said the strike targeted Syrian army’s observation posts, intelligence-gathering equipment, anti-aircraft cannons and command-and-control infrastructure.

Syrian Air Defenses Intercept ‘Hostile' Targets Over Damascus, IDF Confirms Multiple Strikes

Syrian air defenses intercepted "hostile" targets late Monday over the capital city of Damascus following airstrikes by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), according to state media reports from the Syrian Arab News Agency.

According to the IDF, the strikes were in response to an attempted attack along Israel's border with Syria. The IDF targeted Syrian army observation posts, intelligence-gathering equipment, anti-aircraft cannons and command-and-control infrastructure.

Israel Thwarts 'Terrorist' Attempt to Place Explosives on Syria-Israeli Border, IDF Says

The Israeli Defence Forces noted that it "considers [the] Syrian regime responsible for any action taken in its territory", adding that "it will not allow" any violation of the sovereignty of the state of Israel.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) announced it had thwarted an attempt by "four terrorists" to place explosives on the border between Israel and Syria, noting that troops successfully attacked the "terrorists" without any casualties to the IDF.

"Recently, an IDF force thwarted an attempt to place explosives on the Syrian border. A special force that ambushed the southern Golan Heights, near a military post, identified a squad of several terrorists placing explosives near the border fence. Simultaneous firing on the squad that numbered four terrorists hit them. No casualties to our forces", the IDF said in a statement.

Syrian army forces find human organs intended for trafficking inside ex-militant redoubt

Syrian military forces have discovered a large number of human body organs persevered in chloroform and intended for trafficking while conducting clean-up operations in the country’s northwestern province of Idlib.

A local source, requesting anonymity, told Syria’s official news agency SANA that a doctor affiliated to foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants had transformed a house in the village of al-Ghadfa into a medical laboratory, where many packages of human organs, including eyes, hearts, lungs, livers and kidneys, were being kept in chloroform solution.

The report added that the packages were marked with male and female names, while there were records inside the house containing the names of people with descriptions of their general health conditions.

More Explosive Leaks From OPCW Show Trump Bombed Syria On False Grounds

As the ongoing increased sanctions regimen on Syria demonstrates, Washington's pursuit of regime change against Assad is not over, despite Damascus clearly having won the war, and with the US having wisely ditched talk of some kind of overt major Iraq-style military intervention (as was the case under Obama in August 2013).

While mainstream media has largely "moved on" from coverage of Syria (so much for feigned humanitarian "concern" for millions of Syrians suffering under severe American-led sanctions!), some analysts like independent journalist Aaron Maté have been detailing damning leaks from the chemical weapons watchdog Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

"A series of leaked documents from the OPCW raise the possibility that the Trump administration bombed Syria on false grounds and pressured officials at the world’s top chemical weapons watchdog to cover it up," Maté's latest report in The Nation begins.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Color me unsurprised at these revelations; President Trump has been a profound disappointment to me, both domestically, and internationally.

And yet I look at the possibility of a Biden presidency with just as much sang foid as I do for Trump getting another 4 years in office and have to ask; why are our choices for President of this country so horrendously awful, no matter for whom we vote?!?

And no matter who wins, the war party always wins the in US, period, end of discussion.

Watch: Israel Reinforces Troops Near Golan Heights Fearing Hezbollah Retaliation To Strikes On Syria

Submitted by South Front,

The Middle East is rapidly moving towards a new round of confrontation between the US-Israeli bloc and Iranian-led Shiite forces...

On July 26, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) deployed M109 Doher howitzers near the separation line with Lebanon. The deployment of howitzers became the latest in a series of broad measures employed by the IDF near Lebanon recently. Earlier, the 13th “Gideon” Infantry Battalion of the IDF’s elite 1st “Golani” Brigade reinforced troops near the border. The number Israeli Hermes 450 drone reconnaissance flights also significantly increased over southern Lebanon. Additional IDF units were also deployed in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. On top of this, the IDF announced that it will hold the Lebanese government responsible “for all actions emanating from Lebanon”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With the election-year turmoil here in the US, coupled with the broader issues of Covid 19 and riots in major metropolitan areas of the US, Netanyahu feels he can "get away with" major provocations in Syria and Lebanon, and that President Trump will do utterly nothing to stop him; the world is in for a profoundly dangerous set of moments which may well not resolve themselves until far after the US elections in November.

Did Trump Bomb Syria on False Grounds?

Yet there were early grounds for skepticism. The Syrian government was on the verge of retaking the last Douma holdouts of Jaysh-al-Islam, a Saudi-backed militia that was relentlessly shelling the Syrian capital. To suddenly deploy chemical weapons would mean that Syrian forces knowingly crossed the “red line” that would trigger US military intervention. Subsequent reporting from British journalists Robert Fisk of The Independent, BBC producer Riam Dalati, and James Harkin’s investigation for The Intercept found evidence that the civilians filmed in the hospital were not exposed to toxic gas.

Erdogan: Turkish Invasion of Syria Will End When ‘People Are Free’

Islamist Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reverted to a years-old explanation for his military’s invasion of Syria on Tuesday, insisting that Turkish forces will be in the country “until the people are free.”

Throughout the past four years of Turkish military activity in Syria, Erdogan has gone back and forth between claiming that Turkish troops are in the country to fight terrorism and asserting that they are there to overthrow dictator Bashar al-Assad. Erdogan has also repeatedly called Assad a “terrorist,” making unclear if his insistence on fighting terrorism is limited to opposition to groups like the U.S.-allied Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG/YPJ), which Turkey considers a terrorist organization, or to the complete overthrow of the current Syrian government.

ISRAEL RESPONDS WITH FORCE TO IRANIAN PLANS TO DEPLOY AIR DEFENSE SYSTEMS IN SYRIA

Late on July 20, the Israeli Air Force carried out a new wave of airstrikes on the southern countryside of the Syrian capital of Damascus. According to Syria’s state-run news agency SANA, Israeli warplanes launched missiles from the airspace over the Golan Heights at 21.48 local time. It claimed that a large portion of the missiles were shot down by the Syrian Air Defense Forces, but several hit their targets. At least 7 Syrian personnel were reportedly injured in the attack.

A day earlier, on July 19, Israeli warplanes and reconnaissance drones conducted extensive flights in Lebanese airspace, near the Syrian border. Apparently, these flights were conducted in the framework of the preparations for the July 20 attack.

Israeli Missiles Hit Several Sites in Damascus, Wounding Seven

At least six missiles were reported to have hit targets in the southern part of Syria’s capital city of Damascus, according to state media. The strikes targeted Shi’ite militia facilities, wounding at least seven people.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says that the strikes targeted “pro-Iranian” sites, as is generally the case when Israel attacks Syria. Unlike most cases, Syria did not appear to claim substantial interceptions.

Though Israeli officials rarely comment on specific strikes, they have presented attacks on Iranian targets in Syria as trying to chase Iran out of the country. In attacking Iran, Israel avoids this being specifically about them attacking Syria.

In recent weeks, reports are that Israel’s attacks on Iran are being done specifically to try to start a war before the November US election. The expectation is that Iran will eventually retaliate and that this will be a pretext to further escalate the situation into open warfare.

Drone Wars Open New Phase Of Conflict In Syria

Early on July 20, positions of the Syrian Army came under shelling by militants in the villages of Furu, Bahsa and Beit Hassno in the southern part of the Idlib de-escalation zone. In response, government forces struck positions of Hayat Tahrir al-Sam near Kansafra and surrounding areas.

Local tensions increased just a few days after a key infrastructure object of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Idlib became the target of a drone attack. On July 18, three suicide drones hit facilities of the Watad Petroleum Company in the town of Saramada. This company is controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and has a monopoly on the fuel market in Greater Idlib. It is deeply involved in oil trafficking with nearby Turkish-occupied areas in northern Aleppo and responsible for the illegal import of fuel from Turkey. A notable part of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s revenue is generated by Watad.

Three gunmen caught by the Syrian Army have told Russian media they were part of a US-backed militant group and had been sent on a spying mission in the Raqqa governorate.

The detainees were shown to journalists near the city of Palmyra, where they were delivered by the Syrian army. The three men claimed they belonged to the Revolutionary Commando Army, a militia group based around the US base in Al-Tanf in southeastern Syria.

According to the detainees, they left Al-Tanf on motorcycles and rode north for a reconnaissance mission in the Mansoura subdistrict of the Raqqa governorate. Upon reaching their destination they were supposed to look for Syrian, Russian and Iranian facilities.

Russian UN envoy slams exploitation of aid delivery mechanism for Syria

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia has condemned the exploitation of a cross-border mechanism for aid deliveries to Syria by some members of the UN Security Council, and their disregard for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the war-ravaged Arab country.

“Terrorist organizations positioned in Idlib use the humanitarian aid as a tool to exert pressure on civilian residents, and gain advantages. There is direct and indirect evidence for that,” Syria’s official news agency SANA quoted Nebenzia as saying in a Monday statement carried by Russian RIA Novosti news agency.

He added, “Moreover, some foreign parties exploit the mechanism of the cross-border aid deliveries to Syria in a way that threatens secession of a number of areas from the rest of the country.”

US sanctions are part of a multi-front war on Syria, and its long-suffering civilians are the main target

The US is waging multiple fronts of war against Syria, including brutal sanctions, while claiming concern over the wellbeing of Syrian civilians – the vast majority of whom are suffering as a direct result of US policies.

On June 17, the US implemented the Caesar Act, America’s latest round of draconian sanctions against the Syrian people, to “protect” them, America claims. This, after years of bombing civilians and providing support to anti-government militants, leading to the proliferation of terrorists who kidnap, imprison, torture, maim, and murder the same Syrian civilians.

Just weeks after these barbaric sanctions were enforced, cue American crocodile tears about Syrian suffering, and claims that Moscow and Damascus are allegedly preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid. More hot air from American hypocritical talking heads who don’t actually care about Syrians’ wellbeing.

UN: 700 Die In Syrian Camp For ISIS Families - "Explosive" Situation For Renewed Terrorism

ISIS has long been out of international media headlines, but sprawling refugee camps full of what are said to be Islamic State families and sympathizers remain in eastern Syria.

Syrian president: Iran-Syria military accord rooted in years of anti-terror cooperationThursday, 09 July 2020 4:48 PM  [ Last Update: Thursday, 09 July 2020 5:22 PM

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad says the recent military agreement signed by Damascus and Tehran is the result of years of cooperation in fighting against terrorism in the Arab country.

The Syrian president made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri in capital Damascus on Thursday, a statement by Syrian presidential office said.

“This agreement reflects the strategic level of relations between Iran and Syria and is the outcome of years of common measures and cooperation in the fight against terrorism in Syria,” Assad said.

Baqeri, for his part, underlined “the importance of Iran’s continued efforts aimed at boosting bilateral ties between the two friendly and brotherly nations in all fields.”

UN So-called Committee of Inquiry (COI) Casually Blames Bashar Al-Assad for US-Sponsored High Crimes Committed by Terrorist Proxies Against the People of Syria

Formed in September 2011, the so-called Committee of Inquiry on Syria (COI) is an instrument of pro-Western imperial propaganda.

Its reports largely blame Syria’s Bashar al-Assad government for high crimes of war and against humanity committed by US and so-called coalition partners, as well as ISIS and other jihadists used as imperial proxies.

Syria’s UN envoy Bashar al-Jaafari earlier slammed its biased reports, saying the following:

They deliberately “blow things out of proportion…fully disregarding or downplaying core issues,” adding:

“There are blood-curdling scenes that flagrantly contravene the Syrians’ dignity and human rights regarding the crimes of the armed terrorist groups…”

Russia will introduce a UN Security Council resolution to extend the cross-border aid deliveries mechanism in Syria for six months through one checkpoint at Bab al-Hawa, the Russian Mission said in a statement.

Earlier on Tuesday, Russia and China vetoed a draft submitted by Belgium and Germany that would have extended humanitarian deliveries into Syria from Turkey for a year through two checkpoints.

"We fully understand the need to provide humanitarian needs of all Syrians. Guided by this, we will introduce our own draft, which extends the work of CBM for another 6 months and limits the number of crossing points to one, namely to Bab Al-Hawa", the statement said on Tuesday.

US builds new air base in Syria

The United States has built a new military base, including an airport for military aircraft, for its occupying forces in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah.

Local sources told Syria’s state news agency SANA on Wednesday that the new base and its airport had been established in Jazira Region, located between Um Kahif Village and Tal Alu silos.

The sources said the American forces, along with the US-sponsored so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), brought in equipment and logistic materials and set up buildings there. Furthermore, they constructed an asphalt road leading to the silos.

According to the report, the SDF, which is mainly composed of Kurdish militants, is tightly guarding the area surrounding the silos.

Thirst threatening 1 million people in Syria’s Hasakah due to cutting water by Turkish forces

Intense thirst threatens the lives of about one million people living in and around Syria’s northeastern city of Hasakah, as Turkish troops and allied militants continue cutting off drinking water supplies to the region by stopping a major border pumping station, a report says.

Syria’s official news agency SANA on Monday briefly but bitterly recounted the suffering of these people, who are in desperate need of drinking water in hot summer days in the northeastern province of the same name.

A day earlier, Director General of Hasakah Water Company Mahmoud al-Ukla said Turkish soldiers and militants backed by the government in Ankara had stopped Alouk Water Station on Saturday evening and that they had barred workers of the station from entering the facility.

US Amb to UN Claims Russia's Position on Syria Cross-Border Aid Program Will Lead to 'Mass Graves'

A UN resolution adopted in January envisaged a reduction of border crossings under a program of cross-border humanitarian aid to Syria, from four to two, as the Assad government regained control over the country's territory and made possible aid delivery from inside Syria.

The US ambassador to the United Nations, Kelly Craft, asserted that a failure to extend a cross-border aid program in Syria will result in "mass graves" in the country, and claimed that the lack of border crossings would restrict access to Syrians in need of humanitarian supplies amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“What we’re really focused on in the Council is the outcome, and that is saving lives, that’s reaching over 4 million Syrians. And if we don’t, the COVID outbreak is going to… I hate to say this... it’s going to be mass graves of very innocent people,” Craft said in an interview with Fox News.

Netanyahu Warns Assad Not to Ally With Iran’s Ayatollahs, Hints Israeli Ops in Syria Will Continue

The Israeli Air Force has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria in recent years, justifying air and missile attacks by accusing Iran of trying to establish a proxy presence in the Arab Republic. Damascus has denied these claims, and accused Tel Aviv of blatant aggression.

Israel will continue its military operations against Iran in Syria to prevent its entrenchment in that country, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced.

“We are absolutely resolved to prevent Iran from entrenching itself militarily in our immediate vicinity,” Netanyahu said, speaking to reporters at the start of a meeting with US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook on Tuesday.

“I say this to the ayatollahs in Tehran: Israel will continue to take the actions necessary to prevent you from creating another terror and military front against Israel. And I say to Bashar al-Assad: You’re risking the future of your country and your regime,” Netanyahu added.

Aid Organization: Millions on ‘Brink of Starvation’ in Syria

The head of the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said on Monday that millions of Syrians are facing food shortages, and half of the country’s population goes to bed hungry. WFP chief David Beasley said people in both opposition-controlled areas and government-controlled areas are in urgent need.

The shortages are due to many factors, including the nine-year war, US sanctions on Syria, and the coronavirus pandemic. “We’ve got people on the brink of starvation now, and they can’t wait. People will die, and people are dying as we speak,” Beasley said.

Washington hinders delivery of humanitarian aid to detainees in Rukban camp

Syrian and Russian Coordination bodies on the return of Syrian Refugees have renewed that the US continues to impede the delivery of humanitarian aid to displaced Syrians in al-Rukban camp, which is occupied by the US occupation forces, amid the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The two bodies, in a joint statement on Friday, demanded guaranteeing a safe and unconditional exit for those who wish to leave the camp to their permanent places of residence and ending the occupation of at-Tanf area.

The statement noted that the only obstacle to dismantling al-Rukban camp and the return of displaced persons to their areas of residence is the false US position that alleges commitment to internationally recognized human values and public freedoms, but at the same time does nothing to respect them.

15 ‘Iranian-backed’ Fighters Killed in Weekend Israel Strikes on Syria

Israeli airstrikes in Syria are becoming increasingly common, with two over the weekend killing at least 15 people. They were described as “Iran-backed” fighters, though indications are that they were overwhelmingly Iraqis, not Iranians.

Saturday’s attack in Sweida killed six people, four of them Syrians. The nationality of the other two weren’t disclosed, but they were called Iranians in most media reports. Less than 24 hours later, Israel attacked a base in Abu Kamal.

The base in Abu Kamal gets attacked fairly regularly. At the main Syria-Iraq border crossing, this base is overwhelmingly manned by Iraqi Shi’ite militia members, who helped Syria expel ISIS from the border region. The nine killed in this strike are believed to all be Iraqis, even though press reports call them Iranians as well.

MASSIVE explosions after ‘Israeli jets’ strike army bases in central Syria

Several military bases in central and southern Syria have been targeted by air attacks that Damascus has blamed on Israel, Syrian state media have reported. Videos on social media show massive explosions illuminating the night.

Destroying Syria: Congress Declares “I’m from Washington and I’m Here To Impoverish You”

Another round of sanctions, the ironically named Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act, has taken effect in Syria. Through the magic of secondary sanctions, Washington will forbid everyone on earth from dealing with the Syrian regime. Even before the penalties took effect, noted the Washington Post: "they have already contributed to the collapse of Syria’s long-troubled economy."

Thus, the law will further impoverish the Syrian people and hurt them more than their government. However, no one in Washington appears to care that national reconstruction will be further impeded. All that matters is claiming to care.

Sanctions have become the U.S. government’s "go to" policy. Whatever the problem, Washington seems to respond by launching or intensifying economic war. And American policymakers are determined to conscript the entire world in their favorite crusades, using secondary and financial penalties to dissuade others from dealing with Uncle Sam’s enemy du jour.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, unwilling to face Russia on the battlefield (and Russia, as you might recall, was invited by the Syrian government to get rid of the US trained/funded/armed jihadis), the US government in its infinite (absence of) wisdom, has decided to sanction the hell out of the country, and prevent any other country from doing business with it.

One has to wonder just how long Russia's Putin is going to put up with this nonsense.

Crushing US Sanctions To Take Effect on Syria This Week

New US sanctions on Syria are set to take effect Wednesday as the Arab nation is already struggling to rebuild from the nine-year civil war that shattered the country. US sanctions are already impeding the reconstruction effort, and some fear the new measures will only make a bad situation worse for Syrian civilians.

US and EU sanctions on Syria have already frozen the assets of the state and hundreds of companies and individuals. The sanctions also prohibit Americans from exporting anything to Syria and bar US citizens from investing in the country. The new sanctions will give the US the power to freeze the assets of any individual, regardless of nationality, for doing business in Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is only through the most rank and vile exercise of blazing hypocrisy, coupled with a nearly impossible level of ironic tone-deafness, that this law could have ever been titled the "Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act", when our legislators know full well, that it will have the absolutely polar opposite effect from "Protection" for Syrian civilians!!

Video: Hearing Is Not Like Seeing: NATO’s Terrorists Burning Syrian Wheat Crops

A video clip shared by local farmers from Ras Al-Ayn showing an inferno burning their livelihood before their eyes, hundreds of acres of wheat on fire just as the crop is due to harvest.

We’ve been reporting about these fires in areas of operation of the NATO’s Turkish (Orwellian-named) ‘Spring of Peace’ military operation in northern, and especially in northeastern Syria regions as well as in areas where remnants and sleeper cells of NATO-sponsored terrorists of ISIS and its affiliates are active in the south of the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is a companion story at globalresearch.ca, with the following headline:

The US Admits They Are to Blame for Hunger in Syria

The article goes on to state: "United States Special Envoy to Syria, James Jeffrey, announced on Sunday that Washington had offered Syria a proposal to end the US sanctions. The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry in Damascus said that the statements by James Jeffrey constitute a clear admission by the Trump administration of it being directly responsible for the suffering of Syrians. The Syrians see the increasing sanctions as economic-warfare after the US failure to bring about ‘regime change’, by using terrorists supported by the CIA. Damascus declares the sanctions violate human rights and international law as they affect the Syrian population.

President Trump inherited the Syrian war from its creator, former President Obama. In 2016, Trump campaigned with a promise to stop US support of the war in Syria; however, he has since invaded and occupied several areas in Syria and has declared he is there to keep the oil from being used by Syria. Russia entered Syria in 2015 at the request of Damascus to assist in the fight against Al Qaeda and ISIS terrorists.

The newest sanctions have a 5-year life-span, and can be dismissed if seven criteria are met; however, the first two points are designed specifically to prevent fighting the Al Qaeda terrorists who control Idlib and are holding about 3 million persons as human shields. Both Syria and Russia, its ally in Syria, have said defeating terrorism are strategic goals."

War crimes abroad.... domestic violence directed against citizens at home; but hell, it's... the Good old USA, right?!? The Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika, right?!?!?

US forces remain in Syria despite having no legal basis such an invitation from the government or UN Security Council mandate to carry out operations there. Washington continues to ignore demands by Damascus and members of the international community to withdraw its troops illegally stationed there.

Four armoured US military vehicles were stopped by Syrian Army forces while attempting to cross a checkpoint on the M4 highway in the province of Al-Hasakah near the suburbs of Tall Tamer. 20 years after Israel’s unconditional departure from Lebanon, what has been achieved?

Following its defeat in the Second Lebanon War, Israel discovered that the only way to suppress Hezbollah would be to close the supply line between Lebanon and Syria.

This could only be achieved by removing President Bashar al-Assad from power, altering the “Axis of Resistance” stretching from Tehran to Baghdad, Damascus, Beirut and Gaza. But Israel and the United States, supported by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Emirates, Turkey, Europe, and many other countries, have failed to achieve the goal of making Syria a failed state.

US sanctions against Syria amid pandemic amount to medical terrorism: Ambassador

Syria’s Ambassador to Russia Riad Haddad has condemned as “medical terrorism” the US sanctions against Damascus that hamper medical supplies amid the country’s battle against the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“The United States’ sanctions against Syria are actions running counter to international law. It happens at a time when all the nations have mobilized to combat the coronavirus infection. So, such actions are inhumane,” he told a virtual conference on Monday.

“Syria needs medicines and medical goods besides other means to combat the virus. Being deprived of such assistance, we see a new type of terrorism — medical terrorism — against people because the lack of medicines causes human deaths,” he added.

US-Backed Forces Seize Syrian Commercial Bank In Oil-Rich Northeast Province

Via AlMasdarNews.com,

U.S.-backed forces have seized a Syrian Commercial Bank branch in the Al-Hasakah Governorate, as they expelled all the employees inside the building and established full control over the site. The Syrian Commercial Bank is the largest commercial bank in Syria and is state-owned, headquartered in Damascus. Since 2011 it's been under US and EU sanctions.

According to a field report, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), alongside the U.S. Coalition, attacked the main building of the Syrian Commercial Bank branch of the government located within the gathering of official departments in the southern section of Ghuweiran District, at the entrance of Al-Zohour neighborhood in Hasakah city.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have to wonder at what point Putin will put an end to this US occupation of sections of Syria; very obviously, with this move, the US is attempting to put an economic stranglehold on the country.

IRAQ: US Aircraft Continue Transfer Of ISIS Terrorists From Syria To Iraq

US anti-ISIS chief says his goal in Syria is to create a ‘quagmire’ for Russia, not battle terrorism

James Jeffrey, the US special envoy for Syria and defeating the Islamic State, has made quite a frank confession of how he sees his job and that of US troops there: to create a new Vietnam or Afghanistan for Moscow.

"Our military presence, while small, is important for overall calculations. So we urge the Congress, the American people, the president to keep these forces on, but again this isn’t Afghanistan, this isn’t Vietnam, this isn’t a quagmire," Jeffrey said on Tuesday, during a video event hosted by the Hudson Institute.

My job is to make it a quagmire for the Russians.

US sets up new military base in Syria’s oil-rich Dayr al-Zawr: Report

The United States has reportedly established a new military base in Syria’s oil-rich eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr after bringing in reinforcements to the war-torn Arab country.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) quoted reliable sources as saying on Friday that the new US base is located in Day al-Zawr’s al-Jazrat area.

The US-based monitoring group reported that more than 300 trucks, carrying ammunition, weapons, military and logistical supplies, had entered Syria over the past few days and that most of those trucks headed to al-Jazrat.

It further said the US forces are expanding their base in the al-Omar oil field in the eastern countryside of Dayr Al -Zawr.

Recently, it added, American soldiers and other US-led coalition troops had arrived at the base.

Washington runs several military bases in Syria, mainly in northern and eastern regions where the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are operating.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF in fact these reports are true, one has to wonder just how long Russia's Putin will allow this nonsense to continue before something dramatic happens here, and US troops are "cheek to jowl" with Russian troops on the ground in Syria.

And please remember; Russia has weapons and munitions which actually do work as advertised.

Northwest Syria clashes reportedly kill dozens in biggest toll since March truce

An attack by militant rebel forces in northwest Syria sparked clashes that left 48 people dead, the highest toll since the start of a two-month-old ceasefire, an activist group has said.

Fighting had largely ground to a standstill following a 6 March truce in Idlib, the last major opposition stronghold.

The ceasefire came after a fierce month-long Russian-backed government assault that killed hundreds of civilians and forced almost a million to flee.

Before dawn on Sunday, opposition forces mounted an assault on pro-government troops in the Sahl al-Ghab area, killing 35 while losing 13, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Turkish troops, allied militants cut drinking water supply to northeastern Syria

Turkish military forces and allied Takfiri militants have cut off drinking water from a pumping station to thousands of people in Syria's northeastern province of Hasakah, amid the novel coronavirus outbreak in the war-torn country.

The director general of Hasakah Water Company, Mahmoud al-Ukla, told Syria’s official news agency SANA that Turkish troops and their allies forced the Allouk water station to stop work on Thursday, leaving the provincial capital city of Hasakah and areas in the western environs of the province without water.

Israel Behind Air Strikes in Syria Directed against Hezbollah. “Greater Israel” in the Making?

Tensions have worsened in the Middle East. Apparently, the Israeli government is promoting an escalation of violence in Syria with the aim of expelling any trace of Iranian presence from the country, leading to the collapse of relations between Tehran and Tel Aviv. On April 28, Israel’s Defense Minister, Naftali Bennet, made a public statement in which he suggested that he was behind an air strike against pro-Iranian forces in Syria. Still, Naftali made it clear in his speech that there is a focus by the Israeli armed forces to completely destroy the Iranian presence in Syria, not stopping the attacks until the objective is achieved.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Even now, the Iranian regime and its proxies are working in an effort to harm the State of Israel and its citizens”.

Defense Minister Bennet, can you actually explain precisely what you mean by that last statement?!? Can you please quantify what you mean when you say that "The Iranian regime and its proxies are working in an effort to harm the State of Israel, and its citizens?!?

Because, sir, I will tell you, and I have observed the Iranian government since the fall of the US-imposed Shah of Iran, and that is, that the Iranian leadership may be many things, but stupid is not one of them.

Iranians do not want war with Israel; but Israel has decided to invade the sovereign country of Syria, and what the Iranians are doing here, has to do with supporting Syria's sovereignty.

And I would further politely suggest, sir, that Iran is not an "existential threat" to Israel; the threat, sir, and we both know this to be the case, is economic in nature, rather than existential.

Netanyahu could get on a plane to Tehran tomorrow, and do something amazing; create a peace and economic development plan with Iran, which would include all kinds of economic cooperation, and military peace between the two countries, but he won't.

And why is that?!?

Because he, just as does the President and his advisors, want their people afraid, of whoever the "enemy du jour" is. Fear is debilitating, and clouds the ability to think rationally, so that any nonsense fed to fearful people, will be believed, without question.

I, frankly, prefer to think, and be both reasonable and logical, rather than be fearful: and so do a great number of your brother and sister Israelis, sir.

You need to remember that, in future statements of this nature.

Israeli Helicopters Carry Out Attacks in Southern Syria - Syrian Media

The attack comes just days after Syrian media reported what it described as "Israeli aggression from Lebanese airspace", in which at least three civilians were killed.

Israeli helicopters have fired several missiles from the occupied Golan Heights on targets in southern Syria, SANA news agency reported on Friday. According to SANA, the attack made "limited material damage" only, with no casualties.

‘Israeli helicopters’ fire missiles at Syrian military sites – state media

Israeli helicopters attacked a number of military positions in southern Syria with missiles, Syrian state media reported, noting the strikes inflicted “limited material damage."

The aircraft bombed sites in the Quneitra and Daraa provinces early on Friday morning after approaching from the occupied Golan Heights, firing some five missiles, according to the Jerusalem Post. A number of unconfirmed reports said the targets included militias allied to Damascus, such as Hezbollah, in addition to the Syrian military.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just how long Russia's Putin is willing to put up with this Israeli nonsense, before he cuts loose with an industrial-strength "NYET!!", and backs it up with military action.

Discontent & Partisan Warfare Against Illegal US Occupation of East Syria Will Increase – US Veteran

On 22 April, the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, and Turkey held a trilateral video-conference on the situation in Syria within the framework of the Astana format. International observers have explained why the group has succeeded in maintaining the balance of interests in the region and what is behind the growing divisions within jihadi ranks.

The Astana group, a trilateral format comprising Russia, Turkey and Iran created in 2017 to tackle the Syrian crisis, acknowledged on Wednesday that the 5 March 2020 ceasefire deal had facilitated the de-escalation of the situation in Idlib, following Turco-Syrian clashes earlier this year, despite Hayat Tahrir al-Sham's* attempts to obstruct it.

Syria: Liberating Golan Heights is a priority

Syria’s representative to the UN, Dr Bashar Al-Jaafari, has reiterated the Arab Republic’s right to reclaim the occupied-Golan Heights, adding that regaining it up to the 4 June 1967 line is guaranteed by international law and remains a priority for the Syrian government. The territory was seized from Syria towards the end of the Six Day War and later officially annexed it in 1981.

“The UN, under pressure by some permanent members at Security Council, continues to fail to put its resolutions, relevant to ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab lands, into effect, particularly resolutions No. /242, 338 and 497/,” Al-Jaafari added in a speech to the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East via video.

Israel Kills Nine in Attack Near Syria’s Historic Palmyra

At least nine people were killed Tuesday in Israeli attacks on a Syrian military base near the historic city of Palmyra. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the death toll, saying six of the slain were “not Syrian,” but were believed to be Lebanese.

Israeli attacks in Syria are common enough, and often target foreign Shi’ites, who irrespective of their country of origin will be labeled “Iranian” by Israeli officials. The Syrian government confirmed the attack, saying they’d intercepted several Israeli missiles.

Palmyra is not a major site of combat lately, so it’s not clear why Israel would attack it in the first place. Palmyra is an important historical site, and after years of complaining of damage ISIS might do there, its likely there will be a backlash if Israel damages anything as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just how long Russia's President Putin will allow these Israeli targeted assassinations to continue; I would like to hope, not much longer.
